Overview

Foster a Lifetime Love of Learning

Heartland Monstessori Academy provides an academic experience for every one of our students by utilizing the Montessori method of instructing and learning. Each of our spacious-sized classrooms are well-lit and equipped with an assortment of traditional Montessori materials that entice our students to learn from their own unique experiences. We are surrounded by staff and a community of parents devoted to support a love of learning. All of this mixed with love, care, curiosity, imagination will cultivate independent life-long learners which will continue to thrive all the way.

I invite you to come and watch our children creating magic everyday. See how our guides gently lead the students to complete their work which they are happily engaged in. We can see from all of the well-known people who have attended Montessori schools that children educated in this manner are far more likely to find success in their adult lives. For more information visit the “Montessori Resources” tab and view the videos and photos. If you are visiting our website for the first time I invite you to please read in detail to see why your child’s experience at HMA will be so unique and exceptional.

Practical Life

Practical Life activities are the first activities the child is introduced in to the Montessori environment. The aim of the Practical Life is to help children develop their intellect and gain control in the coordination of their movement and help with concentration which in turn will develop an orderly way of thinking.

Exercises of Practical Life help satisfy the child’s inner needs and desires. These exercises also help children learn to care for themselves and others, care for the environment, control fine and gross motor skills along with hand and eye coordination, learn social grace and courtesy as well.

Sensorial

Sensorial area expands the child’s sensory perceptions and knowledge of the world. Dr. Maria Montessori called sensorial materials “the key to the universe” because they enable the child to perceive identity and classify what they see, touch, smell, taste and hear – SENSORIAL

A child’s first step is to become aware of their senses. They use their eyes to see, ears to hear, nose to smell, hands to touch and feel, tongue to taste. Dr. Maria Montessori categorized the sensorial exercises into 8 different groups: Visual, Auditory, Olfactory, Gustatory, Tactile, Baric, Thermic, and Stereognostic.

Language

The Language materials at HMA meet children at the linguistic level at which they are at, ranging everything from vocabulary acquisition to basic vocabulary. The children begin to acquire writing and reading skills by associating sounds with letters and objects. The children put words together phonetically with the help of movable alphabets and overtime they work on phonograms which support reading fluency.

Math

Dr. Montessori loved mathematics. This love of mathematics is very visible in the wonderful materials she designed so young children could share her enthusiasm. Dr. Montessori designed an array of intriguing objects that materialize abstract mathematical concepts. The whole of mathematics is offered first and later its parts, with one difficulty isolated and presented moving step by step towards individual work and abstract understanding.

Science

The Sciences or the “Cultural” area at HMA covers a variety of topics which include botany, zoology, earth sciences including geography as well as music and art. Besides individual and group lessons, our curriculum will include monthly unit studies which will cover all cultural areas. Our children experience aspects of various cultures through factual literature, stories, music, and cultural holiday celebrations.

Enrichment Programs

At HMA we offer enrichment programs that are an integral part of the Montessori philosophy, based on the whole child concept. We offer Spanish, Art & Music, Physical Education, Nature Study and Computers.
